Rainwater Ingress

Rainwater Ingress

Rainwater ingress is a common problem in properties and is often misdiagnosed as rising damp, another reason why you should make sure the person you ask to investigate your damp problem is highly trained and qualified. If ignored this can lead to a deterioration in the decorative condition of the property, stained curtains and decay in window frames and the appearance of moulds on the surface of wallpapers.

When carrying out a survey, we always look at every possible cause of dampness, to make sure we diagnose the correct one and apply the correct treatment.

The pictures above show a survey we carried out, where rising damp was diagnosed by an unqualified surveyor. After treatment damp continued to re-appear. Numerous attempts were made to treat the damp. When we arrived to investigate the ongoing problem, an external inspection instantly revealed a broken down comer, causing damp to penetrate the external wall. Asking a qualified surveyor to come in the first place could have saved this unlucky client the need cost of an unnecessary damp course.
